Joint Statement: Response to The Times article “Fat shaming is the only way to beat obesity crisis”

EASO supports this joint statement in response to an article in The Times of London “Fat shaming is the only way to beat obesity crisis” by Matthew Parris, 28th October 2022.

The response to Matthew Parris’ article, authored by Dr Stuart W. Flint, Dr Adrian Brown and Professor Rachel Batterham OBE, highlights the highly inaccurate and potentially dangerous impact that this article may have, and calls for media to end the stigmatising portrayal of people living with obesity, and to ensure that information shared with the public by media is both scientifically accurate and respectful.
