EASO is pleased to support the UK Obesity All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) “top 10” list for inclusion in Government plans to prevent and treat obesity, which includes a whole system approach to addressing this chronic disease. We encourage the UK government to support these measures. It’s time to treat obesity seriously.
- Implementation of the strongest possible versions of proposals in the Childhood Obesity Plan: Chapter 2 and Prevention Green Paper
- Guide people to make healthy choices for themselves and their families through public information campaigns and support
- Whole systems thinking
- Plans should be scrutinised by patient experts and weight management services users
- Draw on the learnings from previous policy initiatives
- Ensure accountability for delivery
- Education for health and care professionals
- Incentivising GPs to discuss weight management and treat if medically necessary:
- Equitable access to weight management services
- Increase availability of bariatric surgery
