Cost of not applying the NCD framework to obesity study

Aims

The purpose of the Cost of inaction Study project is to quantify, both in economic and broader societal terms, the costs of not applying the NCD framework to obesity.

The results of the project will provide concrete numbers and potential modelled solutions to challenge the hypothesis that governments in Europe “cannot afford the money to pay for obesity if implemented as a policy prioritised NCD”

Project Structure

Methodology

The process for this study combines

  • A mapping of the types of evidence already collated for our overarching research question  and the related gap analysis
  • A multi-stakeholder focus group to ascertain perceived barriers and costs already identified by key actors along the chronic disease continuum (early diagnosis and screening, treatment and long-term management)
  • The development of an Economic model to link the facts and consequences of not implementing obesity according to the NCD framework
  • Costing of all the elements of nonaction for the identified model elements

Members

The Project is led by the EASO Policy team activities in collaboration with HITT Foundation.

EASO has established a Core Strategic Group that provides strategic guidance to the project.

EASO has recruited key external experts to support the work of the research team. The Sounding Board members will provide key input to ensure that the resulting model is fit for purpose and delivers the evidence required.
