EASO Masterclass An interdisciplinary approach to obesity prevention and management

Obesity is recognised as a priority health challenge in Europe, however evidence-based multidisciplinary obesity training is not widely available. This has led to wide disparities in obesity care and public health strategies used to address obesity, which varies enormously across the European region. To address this, EASO education programmes offer comprehensive training designed for European health professionals working in obesity prevention and management.

Teaching at the Masterclass will be delivered via lectures, group discussions and workshops.

  • EASO will offer up to 40 places for this prestigious course. There is no registration fee and EASO will provide 2 nights hotel accommodation and all meals for successful applicants.  All travel costs are to be covered by the participant. 
  • The application deadline is Friday 16 October 1800 CET – late applications will NOT be considered. All applicants will be contacted by email no later than 26 October 2026 and informed whether their application has been successful or not.

  • How to Implement and Monitor Community Interventions
  • Childhood and Adolescent Obesity: Genetic Background, Neurodevelopmental  disorders, how early to treat, and how?
  • The EASO Framework for the Diagnosis, Staging and Treatment of Obesity
  • Clinical Evaluation and a Review of the Latest Obesity Treatment Options
  • Pharmacotherapy in Obesity: Mechanisms of Action, and how to manage the new generation of Obesity Medications
  • Bariatric surgery, Pre and Post Surgical Care
  • Exercise Training in Obesity Management and Dietary Interventions in Obesity
  • Sarcopenia and Obesity in the Elderly

Learning Objectives

The school will provide invaluable opportunities to network and collaborate with faculty and fellow attendees.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognise that obesity is a chronic relapsing disease, with a multifactorial aetiology and multiple health consequences.
  • Appreciate patient perspectives and the significant issues of weight bias and obesity stigma.
  • Appreciate clinical evaluation techniques and be cognisant of the effectiveness of various interventions including dietary, physical activity, behavioural, pharmacological and surgical approaches.
  • Become familiar with a variety of evidence based, patient-centered tools and methods that can assist and enhance implementation of weight management programmes

Who should apply?

The Masterclass is available to a limited number of applicants. Applications are invited from HCPs and PCPs from European countries, identified via a competitive application process. Accepted applicants will be restricted to applications who:

  • Hold a Masters/PhD degree in a relevant area and/or
  • Have 3-5 years of relevant practical experience and/or
  • Are PCPs who see adult, adolescent and /or childhood obesity in their practice
  • Are policymakers working in an area relevant to obesity policy
  • Are members of an EASO affiliated national obesity association if one exists in your country. List of EASO Member Associations

You are not eligible to apply if you have attended an EASO Masterclass or Early Career Network Masterclass in the last 3 years.

Priority will be given to applicants who are members of EASO affiliated National Associations.

Application Information

  • EASO anticipates a high number of applications. It is important that you provide as much relevant detail possible in your submission.
  • In your application, you will be asked to outline your experience and how your participation in this multidisciplinary training will contribute to your work.
  • There is no registration fee and EASO will provide 2 nights hotel accommodation and all meals for successful applicants.  All travel costs are to be covered by the participant. 
  • The application deadline is Friday 16 October 1800 CET – late applications will NOT be considered.
