EASO Masterclass in the Prevention and Management of Obesity

Monday 11 – Friday 15 July 2022, Annecy France

Teaching at the Obesity Masterclass will be delivered via lectures, clinical, case studies, group discussions and skills workshops. Candidates will receive a comprehensive toolkit to improve and enhance their daily practice and project development.

Obesity is recognised as one of Europe’s priority health challenges, however specialised obesity training is not widely available. Obesity care and public health strategies can therefore vary enormously across the European region. EASO education programmes provide a solution by offering comprehensive training for European health professionals working in the prevention and management of obesity. Course content will be delivered by European KOLs (Key Opinion Leaders) and experts. Download the flyer

EASO will offer 50 places for this prestigious course. It is therefore important that you provide as much information possible in your submission. There is no registration fee and EASO will provide hotel accommodation and all meals for successful applicants. Candidates will need to cover their own travel to Annecy.

Applications are now open and the deadline for receipt is 23 May 2022 – late applications will NOT be considered.  All applicants will be contacted by email no later than 10 June 2022 and informed whether their application has been successful or not.

Learning Objectives

The school will provide invaluable opportunities to network and collaborate with faculty and fellow attendees. The 2022 EASO Masterclass will be delivered in two streams, clinical management (days 1-3) and public health (days 4-5).

Clinical Management Learning Objectives

  • Recognise that obesity is a chronic relapsing disease that has a multifactorial aetiology and multiple health consequences.
  • Appreciate patient perspectives and the significant issues of weight bias and stigma.
  • Appreciate clinical evaluation techniques and be cognisant of the effectiveness of various interventions including dietary, physical activity, behavioural, pharmacological and surgical approaches.
  • Become familiar with a variety of evidence based and patient-centered tools and methods that can assist and enhance the implementation of weight management programmes

Public Health Learning Objectives

  • Recognise the complexity of obesity and the concept of systems mapping.
  • Appreciate and understand different policy environments.
  • Attain knowledge and skills to develop and implement public health strategies that recognize the needs of individuals and communities affected by obesity.
  • Attain knowledge and skills to develop and implement evidence-based and person-centered obesity prevention interventions.
  • Learn how to engage with policymakers and to communicate effectively.

Who should apply?

This residential training course is available to a limited number of applicants. Applications are invited from HCPs and PCPs from European countries, identified via a competitive application process. Accepted applicants will be restricted to applications who:

  • Hold a Masters/PhD degree in a relevant area and/or
  • Have 3-5 years of relevant practical experience and/or
  • Are PCPs who see adult, adolescent and /or childhood obesity in their practice
  • Are policymakers working in an area relevant to obesity policy

We are accepting applications from EASO Early Career Network members with an interest in developing their knowledge and networks.

There is no registration fee and EASO will provide hotel accommodation and all meals for successful applicants.

Priority will be given to applicants who are members of EASO affiliated National Associations.

Application Information

EASO expects to receive a high number of applications, it is therefore important that you provide as much information as possible in your submission. Teaching at the Obesity Masterclass will be delivered via overview lectures and case study based teaching workshops. Some candidate case studies will be used as practical examples, so please outline, in no more than 300 words, a topic that you would like to see addressed in workshop format. This could be anything from a real life clinic case to a work or school based intervention, or even a case based on influencing policymakers.
