The EASO Early Career Network (ECN) hosted the first EASO eLearning Hub event of the academic year in September 2024, “Securing and Managing Research Grants: EASO – Novo Nordisk Foundation Award New Investigator Experiences”.
This informative session aimed to equip early career researchers with the knowledge and skills necessary to secure and effectively manage their own research grants, drawing on the experiences of previous EASO – Novo Nordisk Foundation New Investigator Award winners. Dr. Cintia Folgueria Cobos, a postdoctoral researcher, shared her experience applying for the award in 2023, noting the ease of the application process and the valuable opportunity to present her award-winning research proposal at the European Congress on Obesity (ECO). Dr. Sini Heinonen, also a 2023 winner, emphasised the importance of crafting clear and concise abstracts for funding applications, underlining the fact that a compelling abstract is an important element in proposal success. Dr. Andrew Agbaje, a 2024 winner, shared insights from his own award application journies, encouraging attendees to embrace opportunities with perseverance and confidence. All speakers enthusiastically encouraged early career colleagues to apply for the 2025 awards, highlighting that every research proposal holds potential value, and the application process serves as an excellent opportunity for personal and professional growth.
The EASO ECN Board thanks all participants who joined and contributed to discussions. We look forward to connecting with the ECN community at the next eLearning Hub event.
