Welcome Dr Eugenia Romano, researcher at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, King’s College London, to the EASO Early Career Network (ECN) Board
Dr. Eugenia Romano is a researcher at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, King’s College London, within the Department of Psychological Medicine; she also teaches in the MSc Mental Health Studies program. Her research explores the relationship between mental health, multimorbidity, and health inequalities, with a special interest on stigma and obesity. She is a member of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC), where she collaborates with Natural Language Processing (NLP) experts to develop and manage NLP applications for BRC research projects.
Eugenia holds a BSc in Clinical and Health Psychology from the University of Pisa, Italy, where she also completed her MSc in Clinical and Health Psychology with a thesis on diagnostic criteria for psychosomatic research, well-being, and quality of life in patients with severe obesity. She is a licensed psychologist, accredited by the University of Padua, Italy, and earned her PhD at the University of Liverpool, UK, where she investigated the role of weight perception and weight stigma in relation to health behaviors and psychological well-being.
Eugenia is a member of the Education and Training Health Committee for the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO). She has contributed to international practice guidelines for bariatric surgery, and has participated in systematic reviews on bariatric surgery for the World Health Organization.
Eugenia is excited to join the ECN Board to foster connections and promote international collaborations among early career researchers. She is also happy to share tips and insights from her experience as an international PhD student in the UK.
