October 4-7th marks UEG Week 2025, the leading European forum in digestive health, bringing together researchers, clinicians, and policy leaders to explore and share the latest science and strengthen collaboration across disciplines.
By linking digestive health, obesity, and broader NCD policy at the European level, UEG Week provides a vital opportunity to strengthen collaboration and advance shared goals for healthier communities.
Obesity is a major driver of digestive diseases, including MASH and MAFLD, gastrointestinal cancers, and conditions such as gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It is also a gateway to many non-communicable diseases (NCDs), underscoring the need for integrated approaches to prevention, management, and care.
EASO welcomes the increasing attention within UEG Week to obesity as an NCD that affects digestive health. We continue to advocate for obesity to be recognised as a chronic, relapsing disease that requires long-term, multidisciplinary management and policy support.
