ECO2025 Public Engagement and Science Communication Prize
Congratulations to #ECO2025 Public Engagement & Science Communication Prize winners Matthew Harris and Chiara Gericke
The European Congress on Obesity (ECO2025), held this year in Málaga, Spain, included for the first time, Public Engagement & Science Communication Prize. This initiative, supported by Eli Lilly and Company, was established to recognise early career researchers demonstrating excellence in communicating obesity-related research to diverse audiences, including patients, policymakers, the media, and the wider public.

Obesity Micro-learning Modules
We are pleased to share a new set of micro-learning modules for clinical practitioners!
The EASO 5-Minute CPD is an e-learning programme based around compelling, evidence-based micro-learning modules.
Each module addresses a specific topic or research question and provides pragmatic and actionable learning. Content is developed and delivered by international Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and leading organisations working in academia, clinical intervention, policy, public health and research.
Reframing Obesity in Children
This Viewpoint article doi:10.1001/jamapediatrics.2025.1038 written by Dr Melania Manco, Co-Chair of the EASO Collaborating Centres for Obesity Management (COMs) and published in JAMA Paediatrics, sets out an articulate critique of the Lancet Commission’s proposed definition of clinical obesity, especially its application to children and adolescents.

Congratulations to Dr Andrew Agbaje, 2024 EASO – NNF New Investigator Award winner in Childhood Obesity, who has just been named as recipient of the Flemming Quaade Award for Innovative Approaches to Childhood Obesity.
On 4 March 2025, in recognition of World Obesity Day Europe, policymakers, health experts, and civil society came together at the European Parliament in Brussels for the event “Gateway to Better Health: The Case for Coordinated EU Level Action on Obesity.” Hosted by MEP Laurent Castillo (EPP, FR) in partnership with the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO), the event brought critical attention to the urgent need for unified EU-level action on obesity.
