European Association for the Study of Obesity – Novo Nordisk Foundation Obesity Prize and Awards for Scientific Excellence Announced

The European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) and the Novo Nordisk Foundation have announced an Obesity Prize for Excellence, a new award that recognizes outstanding research or technological contributions to the understanding of obesity, its aetiology, complications, prevention and treatment.  The prize is supported by a grant of DKK 2 million, of which DKK 300,000 is a personal grant to the winner.

We are also pleased to announce the EASO-Novo Nordisk Foundation New Investigator Awards in Basic Science, Clinical Research, Childhood Obesity and Public Health (4 separate awards). Each of these four Awards is accompanied by a DKK 300.000 research grant.

Reflecting on the announcement, EASO President Jason Halford said “EASO is delighted to have the opportunity to partner with the Novo Nordisk Foundation to announce five research focused annual grants per year for three years. The new awards will support the work of a luminary in the field of obesity and four rising stars in developing their excellent and impactful work — from discovery science to real world interventions and public health — with strong potential to improve the lives of young people and adults living with or at high risk of developing obesity.”

Arne Astrup, Senior Vice President, Obesity and Nutritional Sciences, Novo Nordisk Foundation said “Obesity is a growing problem for the individual as well as society, yet we still have too little knowledge on the causes and how to make prevention effective. A key strategic theme in the Novo Nordisk Foundation is to strengthen research-based understanding of obesity, and we are therefore very excited to engage in this collaboration with EASO. The purpose with this prestigious prize and research awards is to reward and inspire excellent, innovative research, and I very much look forward to meeting the winners at ECO 2023.”

The deadline for receipt of nominations is Friday 10 March 2023.
