ECN Exchange Programme

The ECN Exchange Programme offers members of the EASO Early Career Network (ECN) the opportunity to gain valuable insights from experts in obesity research, acquire hands-on experience, and enhance skills relevant to their specialty. This Exchange Programme is available to early career research students, scientists and professionals actively engaged in the field of obesity who are members of the EASO ECN.

Exchange Site Visits:

  • Participants will visit a specialist research site in Europe relevant to their research area of interest. Available sites include university-affiliated hospitals, research institutes, wet or dry laboratories, clinical trial sites and EASO Collaborating Centres for Obesity Management (COMs)
  • Site visits will be over 3-5 days
  • All participants will receive an ECN Exchange Programme travel and accommodation grant from EASO

Learning Opportunities & Career Development:

Participants will gain insight into working within the research centre, through:

  • Attending team meetings and touring the host facility
  • Engaging in discussions about research, collaboration and career progression with experts

Participants will gain hands-on experience relevant to their subject area of interest, such as:

  • Shadowing patient evaluations
  • Observing data collection in clinical trials
  • Gaining public and patient involvement and engagement skills
  • Learning subject-specific data collection and analyses techniques

Application Process:

  • The ECN Exchange Programme is open to all early career students, researchers and professionals interested in obesity from any relevant discipline. Applicants must be members of the ECN
  • Interested candidates must complete an application form, indicating their specialist subject area and preferred site from the list of participating centres
  • Applications will be reviewed by the ECN Board

Information for Exchange Sites:

  • Participating as an ECN Exchange site will provide the opportunity to share centre strengths in research and clinical practices, improve patient care across Europe, support career progression of early career people in obesity, gain visibility through EASO blog posts and interviews about the ECN Exchange experience and open new opportunities for future research collaborations
  • Exchange sites will receive full funding for 1 eligible ECN member to attend the next European Congress on Obesity (ECO), with registration and travel/accommodation reimbursement
