Bram Berntzen is a postdoctoral researcher fascinated by the complexity of obesity etiology, treatment, and prevention. Through his research he aims to improve health at the population level.
Bram Berntzen is a postdoctoral researcher at the department of Epidemiology and Data Science at the Amsterdam University Medical Center in the Netherlands. He obtained his PhD degree in Population Health (2021) at the Obesity Research Unit at the University of Helsinki in Finland.
His PhD thesis focused on physical activity, eating behaviors, and sleep in genetically identical adult twin pairs with large differences in body mass index (BMI). Afterwards, his research has focused on the genetic risk of obesity and long-term trajectories of lifestyle behaviors and health. His current work explores how environmental and personal factors – such as neighborhood environment, sleep patterns, and stressful life events – are associated with obesity and other chronic diseases across the lifespan.
As a board member of the EASO Early Career Network, Bram is committed to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and supporting the next generation of obesity professionals.
