Progress Highlights from PREVENT

The PREVENT project has entered its third year, marking steady progress towards its goal of preventing childhood obesity and reducing future cancer risk. Since launch, the PREVENT team has successfully:

  • Identified a list of health-related indicators – including somatometric metrics, genetic attributes, co-morbidities, family and individual health history, and psychological indices – that contribute to paediatric obesity and overweight with increased cancer risk in adulthood, based on evidence-based clinical research results
  • Delivered a set of qualitative and quantitative indicators for assessing new PREVENT primary interventions and engagement policies. These indicators cover economic assessment, social validation, user acceptability, sustainability factors, and compatibility with existing policy schemes
  • Conducted an epidemiological analysis of childhood and adolescent obesity across Europe and in the three PREVENT demo countries. This analysis provided insights on gender distribution, economic factors, social attributes, regional characteristics, and healthcare structures
  • Designed new PREVENT interventions, tailored for each demo country (Catalonia–Spain, Greece, and Sweden), and integrated them into PREVENT’s digital tools to meet users’ needs

Following a successful pre-pilot phase under a co-creation framework, the team is now finalising multi-actor, context-aware intervention policies. With active engagement strategies in place, preparations are underway for implementation in the 2025-2026 school year.
