Welcome Dr Martin Schön, physician and researcher from Slovakia, to the ECN Board!
Martin Schön is a dedicated researcher and physician with a background in conducting large-scale trials as well as mechanistic exploratory studies in diabetes and obesity. Originally from Bratislava, Slovakia, he gained his PhD in normal and pathological physiology while spending part of his PhD project at the Monash Centre for Health Research and Implementation in Melbourne, Australia. He currently works as a postdoctoral researcher at the German Diabetes Center and as a resident physician at the Department for Endocrinology and Diabetology at the University Hospital in Düsseldorf, Germany.
His research interests include heterogeneity in diabetes and skeletal muscle metabolism, with a strong focus on unravelling the link between the pathophysiological phenotype of people with diabetes and obesity and their risk of complications, as well as developing targeted approaches to mitigate these complications.
Recently, Martin received the Rising Star Award of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes. For Martin, it is a privilege to represent the Central European region on the ECN Board and to contribute to strengthening collaboration, sharing knowledge, and promoting evidence-based approaches to obesity prevention and care.
