Joreintje Mackenbach new co-chair of the Public Health Working Group

EASO is delighted to welcome Joreintje Mackenbach as a new co-chair of the Public Health Working Group.

Joreintje Mackenbach is associate professor at the department of Epidemiology & Data Science of Amsterdam UMC and the Amsterdam Public Health Research Institute. Her PhD on ‘obesogenic environments’ prompted further research into food environments and how they affect food intake and health outcomes. Aided by several personal and consortium grants, Joreintje investigated the role of food prices, geographic food access and food marketing for the healthiness of food choices, and the effectiveness of nudging and pricing interventions. Subsequently, she initiated several research projects focused on the political and commercial determinants of unhealthy eating and obesity, which takes into account the wider systemic drivers shaping current food systems and the effectiveness of food environment interventions.
