EASO is delighted to host a two day Masterclass in honour of World Obesity Day Europe, in Vienna March 3-4 2026.

Primary Care at the Frontline: Practical, Patient Centered Obesity Management.

The Masterclass has been designed for primary care physicians, GPs and clinical professionals working in primary care, with a Programme titled – Primary Care at the Frontline: Practical, Patient Centered Obesity Management.

  • EASO will offer up to 80 places for this prestigious course. It is therefore important that you provide as much information as possible in your submission as well over 100 applications are usually received for the number of places.
  • There is no registration fee and EASO will provide 2 nights hotel accommodation and all meals for successful applicants.  All travel costs to Vienna are to be covered by the participant.
  • The application deadline is 25 January 2026, 1800 CET – late applications will NOT be considered. All applicants will be contacted by email no later than 2 February 2026 and informed whether their application has been successful or not.

Learning Objectives

  • Recognise that obesity is a chronic relapsing disease, with a multifactorial aetiology and multiple health consequences.
  • Appreciate patient perspectives and the significant issues of weight bias and obesity stigma.
  • Appreciate clinical evaluation techniques and learn about the effectiveness of various interventions including dietary, physical activity, behavioural, pharmacological and surgical approaches.
  • Learn how to engage with patients and to communicate effectively.
  • Become familiar with a variety of evidence based, patient-centered tools and methods that can assist and enhance implementation of obesity management programmes
  • Using the case-based method, participants will develop the knowledge and practical skills to better understand and navigate the obesity care pathways, and to address a range of patient scenarios in primary care settings.
  • Participants will also build the capability to develop and implement evidence-based, person-centred approaches to obesity management.

Who should apply?

The Vienna Masterclass is available to a limited number of applicants. Applications are invited from primary care professionals working in European countries and will be assessed through a competitive application process. Successful applicants will typically:

  • Be working in a primary care setting (e.g. general practice, family medicine, community health, primary care nursing, allied health in primary care).
  • Have at least 2 years of relevant clinical experience in primary care.
  • Be actively involved in the care of adults, or adolescents living with obesity within a primary care practice.
  • Demonstrate a professional interest in obesity management and its integration into primary care services and pathways.
  • Be a member of an EASO affiliated national obesity association if one exists in your country. List of EASO Member Associations

You are not eligible to apply if you have attended an EASO Masterclass or Early Career Network Masterclass in the last 3 years.

There is no registration fee and EASO will provide hotel accommodation and meals for successful applicants. Candidates will need to cover their own travel to Vienna, Austria.

Priority will be given to applicants who are members of EASO affiliated National Associations.

  • In your application, you will be asked to outline your experience and how your participation in this multidisciplinary training will contribute to your work.
  • You are not eligible to apply if you have attended an EASO Masterclass or Early Career Network Masterclass in the last 3 years.
  • There is no registration fee and EASO will provide hotel accommodation and meals for successful applicants. Candidates will need to cover their own travel to Vienna.
  • Priority will be given to applicants who are members of EASO affiliated National Associations.
