Welcome Dr Andrej Belančić, Specialist in Clinical Pharmacology from Croatia to the ECN Board!
Dr. Andrej Belančić is a 31-year-old Specialist in Clinical Pharmacology at the Department of Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka, Croatia. He also holds the academic title of Lecturer at the Department of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Rijeka, Croatia.
In 2024, he was awarded the title of Best Young Scientist at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Rijeka. Dr. Belančić is the author or co-author of more than 120 scientific and professional full-text articles and approximately 200 scientific abstracts. He has contributed to several national guidelines in the field of metabolic diseases, authored multiple book chapters, and served as editor of several books, textbooks, and manuals.
His scientific activities primarily focus on clinical pharmacology, obesity, and associated metabolic diseases. He serves as Secretary of the Croatian Society of Obesity within the Croatian Medical Association, and is a member of the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) and the World Obesity Federation (WOF). He is also Co-chair of the Early Career Clinical Pharmacologists Working Group of the European Association for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (EACPT), and an active member of the Croatian Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
In addition, he is a member of the European Society of Hypertension (ESH) Working Group on Diabetes and Metabolic Risk Factors, as well as the ESH Working Group on Lifestyle, Cardiovascular Therapy and Adherence. He also contributes actively to the Croatian Society for Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders of the Croatian Medical Association, and is a member of the Croatian Hypertension League
In Croatia, Andrej has actively supported and organized early-career–focused initiatives, including special sessions at the Adriatic Symposium on Obesity and the Croatian Congress of Obesity. He is engaged in national public health campaigns such as “Do you know your number?” and “70/26,” which focus on early detection and prevention of cardiometabolic conditions and actively involve young professionals. He also mentors early-career colleagues through scientific projects and maintains strong ties with other European early-career networks. Now, Andrej looks forward to expanding these efforts on a pan-European level through the EASO Early Career Network.
