Key Conversations: introducing the EASO podcast

Obesity is a chronic disease, and the impact of obesity is resonant across the lifecourse. How people feel, how they are treated and how they see themselves all shape their experience of living with obesity and impact seeking care. These are conversations that matter, and they deserve more space than a conference session or a journal article can give them.

That is the idea behind Key Conversations, a new podcast series from the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO). Each episode brings together leading voices to talk openly about an issue at the heart of obesity science, care and policy.

Episode 1: The indispensable role of mental health in comprehensive obesity management

We begin with mental health, because no approach to obesity can be called comprehensive without it.

The episode is hosted by Professeur Jason Halford, Co-chair of the EASO Psychology, Behaviour and Mental Health Working Group. He is joined by two clinical psychologists:

  • Dr Amy R. Beck, a specialist in paediatric obesity, trauma-informed care and weight-based discrimination
  • Dr Robyn Pashby, FTOS, a specialist in adult health psychology, trauma-informed care and weight stigma

Between them, they bring experience of working with children, young people and adults living with obesity. Over 20 minutes, they explore why psychological wellbeing belongs at the centre of obesity management.
