Clinicienne-scientifique, le professeur Farooqi a fondamentalement fait progresser la compr\u00e9hension scientifique de la r\u00e9gulation du poids corporel chez l'homme et a contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 fa\u00e7onner de nouvelles approches de la prise en charge de l'ob\u00e9sit\u00e9. Le prix, d\u00e9cern\u00e9 conjointement par l'EASO et la Fondation Novo Nordisk, est dot\u00e9 de 2 millions de couronnes danoises. Sur cette somme, 300 000 DKK sont attribu\u00e9s \u00e0 titre personnel et 1,7 million DKK sont destin\u00e9s \u00e0 soutenir d'autres recherches. Elle est \u00e9galement codirectrice du NIHR Cambridge Clinical Research Facility, responsable du th\u00e8me Nutrition, Ob\u00e9sit\u00e9, M\u00e9tabolisme et Endocrinologie du NIHR Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre et m\u00e9decin consultant honoraire au Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust \u00e0 l'Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge.<\/p>\n<p>Forte d'une exp\u00e9rience de plusieurs d\u00e9cennies dans le domaine de la science et de la m\u00e9decine de l'ob\u00e9sit\u00e9, le professeur Farooqi a apport\u00e9 une contribution exceptionnelle \u00e0 ce domaine, en signant plus de 160 articles originaux et plusieurs revues. Ses recherches ont apport\u00e9 la preuve de principe que la leptine est un r\u00e9gulateur essentiel de l'hom\u00e9ostasie \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique humaine. Ses travaux ont fourni la premi\u00e8re d\u00e9monstration claire que le comportement alimentaire humain est fortement r\u00e9gul\u00e9 par des m\u00e9canismes biologiques, plut\u00f4t que d'\u00eatre uniquement guid\u00e9 par le choix ou la volont\u00e9 de l'individu. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des recherches g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques, mol\u00e9culaires et cliniques d'avant-garde, le professeur Farooqi a transform\u00e9 la compr\u00e9hension scientifique des facteurs biologiques qui r\u00e9gulent l'app\u00e9tit et le poids corporel. Les \u00e9tudes qu'elle a men\u00e9es sur les plus grandes cohortes de personnes atteintes de formes g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques rares d'ob\u00e9sit\u00e9 ont modifi\u00e9 \u00e0 la fois les approches scientifiques de l'ob\u00e9sit\u00e9 et les attitudes plus g\u00e9n\u00e9rales de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e0 l'\u00e9gard de cette maladie chronique complexe, contribuant ainsi \u00e0 lutter contre une stigmatisation qui perdurait depuis longtemps.<\/p>\n<p>En outre, les recherches du professeur Farooqi ont d\u00e9montr\u00e9 que l'ob\u00e9sit\u00e9 infantile s\u00e9v\u00e8re peut r\u00e9sulter de troubles g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques sous-jacents plut\u00f4t que d'une n\u00e9gligence parentale, ce qui a transform\u00e9 la compr\u00e9hension et les soins cliniques. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 ce prix, nous d\u00e9velopperons une nouvelle technologie pour \u00e9tudier comment les hormones produites par le tissu adipeux affectent des m\u00e9canismes tels que l'absorption du glucose, l'inflammation et l'accumulation de lipides dans plusieurs organes, en utilisant la technologie des organes sur puce.
