J'y ai travaill\u00e9 sur plusieurs projets visant \u00e0 comprendre comment l'ob\u00e9sit\u00e9 favorise le d\u00e9veloppement du SOPK tout au long de la vie (<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1093\/humrep\/dead053\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1093\/humrep\/dead053<\/a>) et le meilleur r\u00e9gime alimentaire pour le MASLD et l'ob\u00e9sit\u00e9 (<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/nu16071030\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/nu16071030<\/a>). J'ai ensuite d\u00e9m\u00e9nag\u00e9 \u00e0 Londres et travaill\u00e9  avec le professeur Barbara McGowan dans des services sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9s dans la gestion du poids et sur des essais cliniques de pharmacoth\u00e9rapie de l'ob\u00e9sit\u00e9 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41366-023-01368-4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41366-023-01368-4<\/a>). Je suis actuellement chercheur clinique universitaire en m\u00e9decine g\u00e9n\u00e9rale au Kings College de Londres, ce qui me permet de suivre une formation de m\u00e9decin g\u00e9n\u00e9raliste tout en poursuivant mes recherches. Mes recherches les plus r\u00e9centes portent sur deux domaines : le tourisme bariatrique et la relation entre l'origine ethnique et l'ob\u00e9sit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<h3>Tourisme bariatrique<\/h3>\n<p>Une tendance pr\u00e9occupante que j'ai \u00e9tudi\u00e9e est le tourisme bariatrique, c'est-\u00e0-dire le fait de se rendre \u00e0 l'\u00e9tranger pour subir une chirurgie de perte de poids. Cette pratique a pris de l'ampleur en raison des longues listes d'attente, des co\u00fbts \u00e9lev\u00e9s et de l'acc\u00e8s limit\u00e9 aux proc\u00e9dures bariatriques dans plusieurs pays europ\u00e9ens.  Cependant, des rapports font \u00e9tat de certains patients ayant re\u00e7u des soins inad\u00e9quats ou frauduleux, entra\u00eenant des dommages graves, voire la mort. L'IFSO-EC, l'EASO et l'ECPO ont mis en place un groupe de travail compos\u00e9 de professionnels de sant\u00e9 et de repr\u00e9sentants de patients afin d'\u00e9tablir un consensus sur les pratiques s\u00fbres en mati\u00e8re de tourisme bariatrique. Leur objectif est d'\u00e9laborer des lignes directrices qui \u00e9tablissent des pratiques s\u00fbres pour le tourisme bariatrique, couvrant les normes r\u00e9glementaires, l'\u00e9ligibilit\u00e9 et les soins avant et apr\u00e8s l'op\u00e9ration. Ces lignes directrices visent \u00e0 renforcer la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 des patients et \u00e0 r\u00e9duire les risques associ\u00e9s au tourisme bariatrique, en servant de ressource essentielle pour les patients, les prestataires et les d\u00e9cideurs politiques.<\/p>\n<h3>Origine ethnique et ob\u00e9sit\u00e9<\/h3>\n<p>Un autre domaine qui m'int\u00e9resse depuis peu est la relation entre l'origine ethnique et l'ob\u00e9sit\u00e9, qui d\u00e9coule de mon travail dans le sud de Londres, une r\u00e9gion o\u00f9 vit une importante communaut\u00e9 d'origine africaine et carib\u00e9enne. Les conseils alimentaires traditionnels prodigu\u00e9s dans le cadre des programmes de gestion du poids ne tiennent souvent pas compte des pr\u00e9f\u00e9rences alimentaires de ces communaut\u00e9s. Par exemple, une \u00e9tude sur notre protocole Saxenda (liraglutide 3,0 mg) a montr\u00e9 que les personnes d'origine africaine et carib\u00e9enne perdent moins de poids que leurs homologues blancs apr\u00e8s quatre mois, malgr\u00e9 des facteurs d\u00e9mographiques similaires (<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1111\/cob.12649\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1111\/cob.12649<\/a> ). Cela m'a incit\u00e9 \u00e0 m'int\u00e9resser davantage aux disparit\u00e9s dans la prise en charge de l'ob\u00e9sit\u00e9 chez les groupes ethniques minoritaires et \u00e0 explorer les moyens d'am\u00e9liorer les soins et les r\u00e9sultats.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-127626\" src=\"https:\/\/easo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Laurence-Dobbie2.jpeg\" alt=\"A man presents a slideshow on stage at a conference, with two panelists seated at a table nearby.\" width=\"700\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/easo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Laurence-Dobbie2.jpeg 700w, https:\/\/easo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Laurence-Dobbie2-300x171.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Soins primaires et ob\u00e9sit\u00e9<\/h3>\n<p>\u00c9tant m\u00e9decin g\u00e9n\u00e9raliste stagiaire, je m'int\u00e9resse \u00e9galement \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re dont les soins primaires peuvent offrir un traitement efficace contre l'ob\u00e9sit\u00e9. L'arriv\u00e9e de m\u00e9dicaments tr\u00e8s efficaces a rendu cette question encore plus urgente. Au Royaume-Uni, peu de m\u00e9decins g\u00e9n\u00e9ralistes s'int\u00e9ressent \u00e0 la m\u00e9decine de l'ob\u00e9sit\u00e9, et j'ai le sentiment que la stigmatisation li\u00e9e au poids par les professionnels de sant\u00e9 limite l'acc\u00e8s \u00e0 des traitements efficaces.
