Maria Hassapidou is Professor of Nutrition and Dietetics in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics and Head of the School of Food Technology and Nutrition of the Alexander Technological Educational Institution of Thessaloniki (ATEI), Greece. She is also Director of the Human Nutrition Laboratory and member of the research committee of the same institution. She has coordinated and/or participated in several research projects funded by the E.U. (Europe against cancer, Health, Diets I and II, Healthgrain, Eurreca), the research committee of ATEI, the Greek Ministries of Health, Education, Research and Technology, and food or pharmaceutical companies in the areas of dietary assessment and nutritional evaluation, experimental nutrition, dietary treatment of obese patients and childhood obesity. She is also member of several other national and European associations, societies and committees and member of scientific committees of European research projects.
She has been author of several books and has published more than 100 scientific papers (referred papers in journals and conference proceedings) in the areas of nutrition and obesity. She is also a reviewer in many related European and International journals. Areas of expertise include dietary assessment and nutritional evaluation, experimental nutrition, dietary treatment of obese patients and childhood obesity.
