Jøran Hjelmesæth is a specialist in internal medicine and renal diseases. He heads both the large multidisciplinary outpatient clinic and his research group at the regional tertiary care Morbid Obesity Centre, Vestfold Hospital Trust. He is also Professor II at the Department of Endocrinology, Morbid Obesity and Preventive Medicine, the Medical Clinic, Institute of Clinical Medicine, University of Oslo. Areas of interest: Clinical studies of obesity including comorbidities (type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, hypertension, pulmonary disease) and treatment effects of bariatric surgery versus intensive lifestyle intervention in adults and adolescents. Type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome and glucose intolerance after renal transplantation.
