European Association Award: European Obesity Day Policy Conference

EASO is delighted to announce that the EASO Policy Conference 2017 – “Implementing national obesity policies and action plans in Europe” was awarded third place at the 2018 European Association Awards for “Best Association Conference with less than 225 Delegates”

The 2017 conference was held on 10th May 2017 in Brussels, in conjunction with European Obesity Day (EOD), as the focal point of an international public affairs campaign created, developed and organised by Cambre Associatesfor the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO). The Conference was attended by key European decision makers, including representatives of the European institutions and Member State health authorities – impressed the judges, who congratulated EASO on gathering 100 policy makers for the meeting. The breadth of this EU event and attention to detail including the conference location and healthy menu were noted.

Obesity, affects nearly 100 million citizens in Europe and is one of the greatest public health challenges of the 21st century, costing €70 billion in healthcare and lost productivity. The conference, shining  a light on the need for more effective strategies to address the growing obesity epidemic, heard from a wide range of speakers about both challenges and best practice examples in obesity prevention, treatment and care.

Following on from this successful event, EASO is organising a 2019 Policy Conference conference, The Social and Economic Impact of Preventing and Treating Obesity,” which will take place on Thursday 16th May at the Renaissance Hotel in Brussels. This event is being held in conjunction with European Obesity Day (EOD) 2019.
