EASO OBESITY MANAGEMENT MASTERCLASS GOES VIRTUAL

Due to the global SARS-CoV 2 pandemic, EASO will host the 2020 edition of our popular Train the Trainer (TTT) online. This will be offered as an ‘Obesity Management Masterclass Series,’ covering management in adult and childhood obesity in November and December. EASO education programmes provide virtual and face to face training solutions by offering comprehensive programmes for European health professionals working in the prevention and management of obesity. Course content will be delivered by European KOLs (Key Opinion Leaders) and experts.

The 2020 Masterclass will be delivered in two streams, obesity management in adults, and obesity management in children, and will provide valuable digital opportunities to network and collaborate with faculty and fellow attendees.

Teaching will be delivered via plenary sessions, lectures, clinical case studies, group discussions and skills workshops. Candidates will receive a comprehensive toolkit designed to improve and enhance their daily practice and project development.

Dates for the 2020 Virtual Masterclass Series

Adult Obesity Management 14:30-16:30 CET on these dates:
November 25th, 27th and 30th 2020 and December 4th 7th and 14th 2020

Childhood Obesity Management 14:30 -16:30 CET on these dates:
November 27th and 30th and December 4th and 7th

Application Deadline is November 1st. Successful applicants will be expected to attend all sessions in their selected stream.

Who should apply?

Up to 80 funded places are available for this residential training course. Applications are invited from HCPs and PCPs from European countries, identified via a competitive application process. Acceptance will be restricted to applicants who:

  • Hold a Masters/PhD degree and/or
  • Have 3-5 years of relevant practical
    experience and/or
  • Are MDs working in the field of obesity

Priority will be given to applicants who are members of EASO affiliated National Associations.

Application Information

EASO expects to receive a high number of applications, it is therefore important that you give as much information as possible in your submission. Teaching at the online Obesity Management Masterclass will be delivered via overview lectures and case study based discussion sessions. Some candidate case studies will be used as practical examples, so please outline, in no more than 300 words, a case that you would like to see addressed in the session.

There is no registration fee to participate, but this is a competitive application process and only a limited number of candidates will be accepted.

Learning Objectives

  • Recognise that obesity is a chronic relapsing disease that has a multifactorial aetiology and multiple health consequences
  • Appreciate patient perspectives and the significant issues of stigma and weight bias
  • Appreciate clinical evaluation techniques and be cognisant of the effectiveness of various interventions including dietary, physical activity, behavioural, pharmacological and surgical approaches
  • Be familiar with a variety of tools and methods that can assist and enhance the implementation of weight management programmes.
