The Social and Economic Impact of Preventing and Treating Obesity
The EASO Policy Conference 2019 – “The Social and Economic Impact of Preventing and Treating Obesity” took place on Thursday 16th May at the Renaissance Hotel in Brussels. The event was held in conjunction with European Obesity Day (EOD) 2019.
The conference followed the very successful EASO policy conferences “Implementing national obesity policies and action plans in Europe” held in May 2017, and “Obesity Policy in Europe: the need for Education, Treatment and Care” held in May 2018.
The event was chaired by John Bowis, former UK Minister of Health and former MEP and MP.
Speakers and panellists included representatives from the EU institutions, WHO, OECD, EASO, EU Member State representatives, academia, healthcare professionals and representatives of EU disease and therapeutic associations.
The conference was attended by 128 EU and national policymakers, politicians, representatives from national representations and ministries, obesity specialists, healthcare professionals, and organisations representing the many diseases on which obesity impacts.
