EASO COMs Exchange and Mentoring Programme

Obesity is recognised as one of Europe’s priority health challenges, however specialised obesity services are not widely available and obesity care can therefore vary enormously across European regions. The EASO Exchange and Mentoring Programme provides a solution by supporting the establishment of centres that improve access to and delivery of care.

You can apply to the COMs Mentoring Programme on the EASO website. The first application phase has begun and will continue through April.

NIU Board Spotlight: meet Emanuel Canfora

Dr Canfora’s multidisciplinary research focuses on strategies to manipulate the gut microbiota to prevent and treat obesity-related metabolic diseases.

The research of my current department (Human Biology) focuses on disturbances in energy and substrate metabolism in the aetiology of obesity and obesity-related health complications, as well as on the role of dietary intervention to reverse these changes. Our group has access to extensive facilities for human intervention studies, detailed human phenotyping as well as biochemical and molecular laboratory techniques (Metabolic Research Unit Maastricht).
