Membership of the European Association for the Study of Obesity is via the membership of national associations.
Members come from a wide range of professions and include clinicians, scientists, allied health professionals working in the field of obesity research and education, opinion leaders and advocacy groups, health related organisations, governments, policy makers, representatives of UN Bodies and the international community.
Individual membership is only considered for those countries without a national association. Please contact the EASO Secretariat for further details.
EASO is a membership association. Our National Association members, and the individual members thereof, enjoy extensive EASO member benefits.
Membership of EASO
Membership of an EASO affiliated National Association gives you automatic membership of EASO, the European Association for the Study of Obesity. Established in 1986, EASO is the leading European scientific and practice-based professional membership association in this field, with networks in over 30 countries. It is in formal relations with the WHO Regional Office for Europe and is an active member of EU Commission initiatives including the EU Platform on Diet, Physical Activity and Health and the Joint Programming Initiative on Healthy Diet Healthy Lives. EASO facilitates and engages in actions that prevent and combat the epidemic of obesity. It contributes to high level European and National scientific consultations, hosts the annual European Congress on Obesity (ECO), has dynamic and active topic specific Task Forces and Working Groups, and coordinates obesity education across Europe.
EASO membership benefits all colleagues with an interest in issues related to overweight and obesity, including Clinicians, researchers and public health practitioners. Members of EASO benefit from reduced ECO registration fees, reduced Obesity Facts subscriptions and submission fees, free access to educational podcasts and online meet the expert sessions, and free access to EASO topic specific statements and guidelines.
For researchers and public health professionals, EASO disseminates EU project results and offers a lively network which shares information on EU funding opportunities and consortia development. EASO is in formal relations with the WHO Regional Office for Europe and represents obesity in EU initiatives and consultations including the EU Platform on Diet, Physical Activity and health; the Joint Programming Initiative HDHL and the Joint Research Centre Foresight Study on Diet.
For clinicians, the COMs network of European management centres brings Europe’s leading treatment experts together to deliver clinical education in the form of ECO workshops, COMs Summit Meetings, treatment protocols and management guidelines. COMs members can communicate to exchange ideas and expertise via a special section of the EASO website.
EASO is especially relevant for new investigators, who can collaborate via the EASO NIU network. EASO offers a NIU forum, travel grants, awards and WHO internship programmes, plus opportunities to communicate with senior colleagues in our field. We encourage all new investigators to get involved and to apply for travel grants and awards.
