EASO Obesity Policy Conference

Interested in obesity policy? Registration is now open for the May 2018 European Obesity Policy Conference.

The EASO European Policy Conference on Obesity takes place in Brussels on 17 May 2018.The conference will focus on the need for education, treatment and care and is timed to be held in conjunction with European Obesity Day 2018, which takes place two days later on 19 May.

Agenda announced

Topics will include the patient perspective; the importance of treatment strategies in national obesity policies; treatment and patients at the centre of policy: lessons from the Netherlands; the role of a GP in obesity management; the need for obesity training; how to train healthcare professionals: lessons from Switzerland; the need for obesity training among comorbid disease specialists; the need for an effective obesity classification; the need for better education in prevention; tax options; incentivising health in the workplace; lessons from Portugal where obesity has been classified as a disease since 2004; working together on the co-creation of policy questions; and social media and new technologies the tools for public health promotion.

Participation

The event will be chaired by John Bowis, former UK Minister of Health and former MEP and MP. Invited speakers include representatives from the European Commission, WHO, OECD, EASO, EU member State Permanent Representations, the University of Copenhagen, the International Society of Hypertension, Erasmus MC, UEMO, CPME, and the Institute of Employment Studies.

Registration details

The conference will be held at the Renaissance Hotel, Rue du Parnasse 19, 1050 Brussels. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the European Commission and is almost next to the European Parliament.

Registration opens at 09:15 and the conference will begin promptly at 10:00. It is due to conclude at 16:30.

A buffet lunch will be included in the event and immediately following the event there will be a networking reception. Attendance is free of charge.
